A Teacher's Lament!

It is indeed the greatest misfortune of beloved Bharat Varsha, that very few or none of its modern-day inhabitants have any sense of appreciation for the great literary traditions and works in Bharat Mata's rich and varied languages. I am appalled at the kind and quality of education available to our future generations.

Textbooks are replete with errors of the most horrendous kind, here in Gujarat. There's hardly any sense of culture in the students. All they can think of is the basest, most despicable forms of pleasure and living. That's exactly what they have been exposed to at home and at school, no doubt. So while I do not blame them for what they are, I do believe that they have it in them to uplift themselves from the kind of mediocrity and ignorance that they currently wallow in!

Their leaders, celebrities, and elders are no better. Wonder what is to become of an India where languages and Literature are no longer valued, only muscle flexing and self praise rule the roost.

One makes vain efforts to sensitize and make more sensible the nation's youth and one feels extremely despondent and frustrated, every time. All manner of idiots are taking over the country. Violence, sex, flashiness of every kind, vanity, and lust for more are the only ideals today in my beloved country.

People could have looked at and learned from the better, finer aspects of both Islamic and Western cultures and made the future more promising for everyone. Instead, they looked at only the worst traits and foibles of both.

Silliest of people line up at the government's door to beg for awards, grants, and other benefits and consider themselves wonderful representatives of culture, literature and other things that they have absolutely no connection with. Many of them can't even use their own mother tongue very effectively.

The politically motivated induction of scheduled chutiyas and scheduled tharkis and other buffoonery creators into the mainstream has indeed left culture, Literature, awareness, and sensible behaviour high and dry!

One only wishes the company of that one former student who did seem to possess the good sense to value our most ancient culture. Even she lives among lesser, more idiotic philistines who have injected all the worst ideas and approaches into her being. Wonder what she is doing today and how she's faring.

There are always enough questions to make answering them futile, even impossible.

There's absolutely no point in sharing what we have learned from the Great Masters of Literature, Art, and Culture with the common, blundering rakshasas we see everywhere in the society today.

I feel truly privileged to have been witness to the works of the finest minds in English, French, German, Russian, American, and Indian Literatures. They have indeed taught me to share in order to care. But I have also divined that where sharing is not reciprocal or interactive at the very least, there is no point in having anything to do with such folks.

I keep wishing for better people. Wonder if I am justified in hoping for one more student who will appreciate and be thankful for what I share.

Wonder if I am making a mistake in expecting a great deal from students.

Wonder if anything of value will be able to retain that value in a country of idiots.
